This showy species is endemic to the Island of Lampedusa. Unlike its well known relative S. peruviana, this species has more compact growth and a large flat umbel on a short stem. Color of the flowers is pale grayish/blue which gives a nice contrast to the deep olive-green leaves with white hairs at the margins.
